Four things worth checking before you buy
CSA is the Canadian electrical safety mark, and DOE is the energy listing that gives this model a 65F rated capacity figure at all. Auto defrost keeps the coil clear in a cool basement. Memory restart brings the machine back on your own settings after a power cut, which matters in a space nobody checks daily.
Seven keys, and one you will not find on smaller units
Swing has a key of its own. Press it and the louvre sweeps the airflow across the room instead of pointing in one direction, which is what makes a 4,500 sq ft rating mean something in a space broken up by walls and furniture. Everything else is a single key: lock, timer, fan, humidity, mode, power.

Which capacity figure applies to my basement?
The DOE one, 22 pints a day. It is measured at 65F and 60% relative humidity, the condition the US Department of Energy set in 2019 because it reflects a basement. The 74 pint headline is at 95F and 90%, and the manufacturer also publishes 60 pints at 86F and 80%. Every brand's headline is inflated by the same test, so compare DOE to DOE.
Should I leave the swing on?
In a large or L shaped room, yes, because it mixes the air instead of drying a column in front of the machine. In a narrow room or a corridor it makes little difference and you can switch it off from its own key. It does not change how much water the machine removes, only where the dry air goes.
How does this compare with the 54 and 96 pint models?
They share a cabinet style and the same controls, and differ in compressor. On the DOE test the three return 16, 22 and 35 pints a day. Coverage is rated at 4,500 sq ft for both the 54 and the 74, and 5,500 sq ft for the 96. Pick on the size and dampness of the space rather than on the headline pint number.
Does it plug into a normal outlet?
Yes. The specification is 115V, 60Hz on a 5.3 ft cord, so a standard grounded Canadian household outlet is correct. Plug it into the wall rather than a light duty extension cord, and keep other large appliances off the circuit.
