What usually goes wrong
Old floorboards and tiled rooms are rarely level. A frame six feet tall sits on one leg slightly short, rocks whenever a cat lands, and no amount of tightening the bolts fixes it.
How this one answers it
The feet on this frame adjust. Wind the short leg down until the rocking stops, then fit the supplied anti tipping device to the wall for the sideways loads the feet cannot answer.

Two load figures, four heights
The top perch is 23 by 14.5 inches at about 57 inches and is marked 44 lbs. The platforms at 40 and 28.5 inches are marked 33 lbs, and the condo at the base, roughly 29.5 by 16 by 17 with a 10 inch opening, is marked 44 lbs again. Publishing different numbers for different levels is a good deal more honest than one figure covering everything.
A rail around the top
The top perch has guardrails rather than an open edge. At 57 inches that changes what a cat does up there. With something to lean against it settles and sleeps, and without one it sits, watches the room for ten minutes and goes back down to the sofa.
Bands for a ladder
The ladder to the middle level is made of elastic bands rather than fixed rungs, with a scratching pad beside it. It looks odd and it works on two counts: the bands give under a paw so a cat keeps pushing at them, and the pad takes the claws that would otherwise go into a platform edge.
Four mats, put them anywhere
Four polar fleece mats come with the tree and none of them is tied to a particular level. Put them where the cat actually sleeps and leave the rest of the boards bare, which is worth doing because bare wood stays noticeably cooler through a hot week.
