The problem this solves
What usually goes wrong
A ride on construction toy is a one trick toy: once the bucket has been up and down twice, the child is off doing something else.
How this one answers it
This one folds a basketball hoop out of the back and comes with three balls. The digging game and the shooting game run off the same machine, which is why it holds a two year old's attention past the first afternoon.
Yellow ride on bulldozer with a black loader bucket, yellow wheels, a red steering wheel and three coloured balls beside it.
A dozer and a hoop
A yellow bulldozer with a black loader bucket at the front and a folding basketball hoop at the back, supplied with three coloured balls. It measures 33 in long, 14 in wide and 17 in tall and is made from HDPE, PP and metal.
Two handles that work
One handle lifts the arm from 7 in to 10 in. The other swings the bucket through 110 degrees. Both are real levers rather than moulded shapes, which is what separates a digging toy from a picture of one.
Storage and the hoop
The seat lifts to a hidden compartment the maker suggests for toys, a bottle or the charger. The basketball hoop folds out of the back and three balls come in the box.
Age and capacity
2 years and up with a 55 lb weight capacity, both the manufacturer's own, on a 6V 4Ah battery. A charger comes in the box with the three balls.
