Shade that brings its own footing
The post here stands on a 40 inch cross frame of its own and the canopy hangs over from the side. Put it beside the loungers, behind the sofa, wherever there is clear paving. The foot pedal swings the canopy around as the sun crosses the yard.
Blue on a black frame

Frequently asked questions
Will it cover two loungers?
Yes. Ten feet at the widest point and 9.6 feet across takes two loungers with a small table between them, and the rim sits 6.5 feet up so you can sit upright underneath without meeting fabric. Put the post at the head end rather than in the walkway.
What base does it need?
The 40 inch cross frame comes in the box. The weights that sit on it do not, and this product's own dimension drawing recommends a 220 lb weighted base. Be aware the description text on the same record says 90 lb, so the manufacturer's paperwork disagrees with itself. The higher figure is the one we would size to, because a cantilever carries its whole canopy off to one side of the post.
Is it safe near a pool?
The frame is built for outdoor use and the fabric is described as water resistant, so splashes are not a problem. What matters near water is the ballast: load the base properly, keep the post back from the edge, and close the canopy before a windy night.
What is the winter routine?
Close it, let the canopy dry right through, wipe the post and store it somewhere dry. Canadian umbrella care guides all land on the same two hazards: snow load sitting on an open canopy, and fabric packed away while it is still damp.
