This bookshelf runs four layers deep, with seven open compartments and a flat top above them. The boards are thickened for stiffness, the base is wide for stability, and the back is left open so nothing is trapped at the rear.

Four large cubes hold books, box files and storage bins. Three medium cubes near the top are better suited to photo frames, small plants and the bits that always go missing.
The top counts as storage too
