Play tables that only do one thing
A block table is useless at six
Buy a dedicated brick table and it goes to the basement the year a child moves on to drawing and homework.
A table that converts both ways
Panel on, it is a plain desk for colouring and reading. Panel off, it is a block board. The same piece of furniture follows a child through both phases.
Unpainted pine with an environmentally friendly finish the manufacturer describes as non-toxic and odourless. Every corner is rounded and the surface is sanded free of burrs. The lower shelf holds books and baskets, and it lifts out entirely when a child wants to pull a chair right in.
The panel is the whole trick
Slide it off for the block board, slide it back for a flat desk. Nothing to unscrew and nothing to lose, because the panel is the table top.
A long narrow table
32.5 inches by 17 inches and 19.5 inches tall. The depth is what makes it fit along a hallway wall or under a window where a square play table would stick out.
Build and leave it
The well is 1 inch deep so the board sits below the frame edge, which keeps the edges of a build from being knocked. Cover it over and the village is still there tomorrow.
What the table does
