Read the drawer depth first
The frame is 79.5 inches long and the headboard 56.5 inches across at 40.5 inches tall. The drawers are 24.5 inches from front to back, so the floor in front of them has to be clear that far. Inside, the mattress area is 76 by 54 inches and the mattress must be 8 inches thick or less.
Why the mattress limit is there
The deck sits down inside the rails. A mattress up to 8 inches thick drops into that recess and is held on four sides. A deeper one would sit above the rails and lose the benefit entirely.
Eight slats over a closed box
Eight plywood slats span the deck and the base below is panelled right to the floor. The maker's argument is that a closed box is stiffer than an open frame, and that there is nothing underneath to clean.
Open, it is obvious storage
With both drawers out the bed gives up about five feet of drawer front. Shut, the fronts line up with the base panel and nothing shows. That is the trade with drawers at the foot rather than the side: you need clear floor there, but you never lose a drawer to a wall.
