A normal sofa seat is built for sitting. Lie on it and your legs hang over the front edge, so the standard fix is a cushion under the knees and one arm of the sofa as a pillow. Two people cannot do it at once at all.

The cloth, at reading distance

A wide wale corduroy in a mid grey, photographed close enough to count the ribs. The pile gives a grey sofa some movement instead of a flat slab of colour, and it is warmer to sit on in a cold room than a smooth cover is.

The insets show a block of soft sponge out of its cover and a zip running along a cushion edge. With no frame in the sofa, the sponge is the structure, which is why the maker asks for three days of expansion before you judge how it feels.

Is 39.5 inches too deep for normal sitting?

On its own, yes. That is what the five pillows are for. Stacked against the back they bring the usable depth down to something ordinary for sitting upright, and taken away you get the full surface to lie on.

Does the whole thing really seat four?

Four is the maker's figure, and the 84.5 inch seat surface supports it for casual sitting. It is not four upright dining style places, because there are no seat divisions at all, which is also why it takes five people quite happily when nobody minds touching.

What is the sofa actually made of?

Soft sponge cushions in corduroy covers, with no internal timber or steel frame and no legs. That is why there is nothing to assemble, and also why the sponge needs three days to reach full size after being vacuum packed.

Will it fit through my front door?

Carton dimensions are not published, but the sofa ships as vacuum packed cushions rather than as a rigid frame, so the packages are far smaller than the finished piece. That is the practical advantage of this format in a flat or an older house with a tight stair turn.
