Frameless sofas sit flat on the floor, and on laminate, engineered wood or tile that means they travel. A few weeks in and the sofa is no longer square to the wall, the rug has ridden up underneath it, and the gap behind it has become a shelf.

The underside of this one is a field of rubberised dots rather than plain cloth, which the maker photographs directly. On carpet it will not shift at all, and on a hard floor it takes a deliberate shove to move rather than drifting under normal use.

Will it slide on a wooden floor?

The base is covered in rubberised grip dots rather than plain fabric, which is the maker's answer to having no legs. It will not drift under ordinary use. Moving it deliberately takes a firm push, and lifting a corner is easier than dragging it.

Is black corduroy hard to keep clean?

Corduroy has a ribbed surface, so it holds dust and pale hair more visibly than a flat weave. The counter to that is that every cover on this sofa unzips and goes in the machine, which is not true of most black sofas at this price.

Is it hard to get up from?

The chaise section sits 15.5 inches from the floor, which is a couple of inches lower than a conventional sofa seat, and the deep soft cushions mean you sink further than that suggests. If getting up from low seating is already a problem, this format will not help.

How long until it looks like the photographs?

Up to 72 hours. The cushions are vacuum packed, so they come out flat and creased and slowly recover. Lay them out in the position they will live in and leave them alone rather than trying to speed it up with heat.
