The densest artificial trees fill every space with foliage, which sounds good until you try to hang an ornament. There is nowhere for it to sit and nothing behind it, so baubles perch on the surface instead of in the tree.

A Carolina pine grows with space between the needle clusters, and this one copies that: 484 tips arranged in flower shapes with room between them. Ornaments hang into the tree rather than on top of it, and the 49 cones fill the gaps that are left.

Four numbers, one image

The whole specification in one place: 484 branch tips, 49 pine cones, 260 warm LED lights and a metal stand. The cone count is the one that stands out, because 49 is a lot of natural looking detail to have fitted before you start.

Six feet, nearly four across

6 ft of height against a 3.7 ft spread. That is a full profile and it needs a floor circle of four feet. Under a standard eight foot ceiling there is clear air above for a topper.

Both states, side by side

By day the flower shaped needles and the cones do the work. By night the 260 warm bulbs pick out the branch structure. Neither view is doing anything the other hides, which is the point of showing them together.

Three sections, hinged

Three parts with hinged branches that open as each section is raised. On a pine with open needle clusters the fluffing matters: spread the clusters outward rather than flattening them, and the gaps between them stay where they should be.

Long needles in a flower shaped cluster rather than a flat fringe.

Natural looking cones fitted among the branches.

Open spacing, which is what lets ornaments hang into the tree.

Warm lights pre-strung through the branches.

Branches expand as each section is stacked.

A metal stand for stability under a 3.7 ft spread.

The manufacturer states the transformer is UL588 certificated.

New rather than recycled PVC, described as eco-friendly and non-flammable.

Open branches let a good bauble hang and turn rather than perch.

3.7 ft across at six feet is a full sized tree.

Flower shaped needle clusters and 49 cones read as a real pine.

What makes a Carolina pine different?

The needle shape. Instead of a flat fringe of cut PVC, the needles are long and arranged in flower like clusters with space between them. It looks less dense from across the room and holds ornaments better up close.

Are the pine cones fitted?

Yes, 49 of them are set among the branches as part of the tree rather than clipped on.

How much floor does it take?

3.7 ft across at the widest branches, so allow a floor circle of about four feet.

Can it be used outside?

The record describes it as being for indoor decoration, and no weather rating is published. Health Canada advises keeping indoor rated decorations indoors.
