The problem this solves
What usually goes wrong
Built in songs on a ride on car run out fast. Four or five tunes on a loop is charming for a week and unbearable by the second weekend, and there is usually no way to change them.
How this one answers it
The dashboard here takes a USB stick and plays MP3 files, with volume buttons beside it. A parent can load the music a child actually likes, or turn the whole thing down, without giving up the horn and the speed switch sound.
White bodywork over black wheels and a black roof, with lit headlamps, folding mirrors and the Discovery name on the bonnet.
Plain white bodywork
White panels, black roof, black alloy style wheels and chrome look badging. Of the three colours in this family it shows the moulded body lines the most clearly.
Two ways to drive
Either the child steers with the wheel and the foot pedal, or an adult takes over with the remote and its three speeds. The remote needs two AAA batteries, which the maker states are not included.
Age, weight and footprint
36 to 72 months and a 55 lb weight capacity, both the maker's figures, with the car at 42.5 in by 25.6 in by 20 in and 26.5 lb. ASTM and CPSIA badges are on the same panel.
Doors and mirrors
Both doors are hinged and lock shut, with a moulded interior card and a red catch. The mirrors fold, which matters when the car is stored beside a wall over winter, and the windshield frame gives the cabin its shape.

Who is this perfect for?
Households that want the volume down
Volume buttons on the dashboard and a USB port mean the soundtrack is the parent's choice rather than the factory's.
Three to six year olds
36 to 72 months with a 55 lb capacity on the maker's panel, and a slow start system for the first few drives.
Winter storage
At 42.5 in long and 26.5 lb with folding mirrors, it fits along a garage wall and can be lifted by one adult when the driveway is under snow.
What we stand behind
- Speed, play time, age band, weight capacity and dimensions are the manufacturer's published figures.
- The manufacturer states the car is an officially licensed Land Rover and that it is ASTM and CPSIA approved. No certificate number is published.
- Motor wattage on the maker's panel does not square with the battery and run time printed beside it, so it is not repeated here.
- No charge time and no remote control range is published.
- A toy for supervised play on private property. Never on a road, a sidewalk or a bike path.
