Description
x10000 BTU Air Cooler with Fan and Dehumidifier Mode, Self-Evaporating
Self-evaporation is the point of this one: most of the water it pulls out of the air leaves as vapour through the exhaust hose instead of filling a tray. Rated 10,000 BTU ASHRAE, 6,000 BTU SACC, for rooms to 350 sq ft on R410A refrigerant.
Self-evaporating6,000 BTU SACC50 pints a day350 sq ft
Draining is the job people quietly resent about portable air conditioners. A self-evaporating design removes most of it, and automatic defrost removes the other common annoyance.
Four things printed on the machine
Temperature from 60.8 to 89.6 F, a 650 ml internal tank, automatic defrost and the self-evaporating system. The tank only matters on the days the room is humid enough to beat the evaporation, which in most Canadian homes is a handful of weeks.
The numbers, all in one place
115V at 60Hz on a 6 ft cord, 45 lb on the scales, 27.5 inches tall on a 12.5 by 12 inch footprint. Cooling is stated both ways, 10,000 BTU ASHRAE and 6,000 BTU SACC, with a 5 ft exhaust hose and a 25.5 inch drainage hose in the box.
Where the dust stops
Air enters through a high density filter screen before it reaches the coil, which keeps hair and dust out of the machine. The louvre tips through 140 degrees vertically and turns 50 degrees across, so you can send air along a ceiling rather than at a chair.
What you get
Self-evaporating system
Condensate is carried out as vapour through the exhaust hose, so most of the time there is nothing to empty.
Automatic defrost
Melts ice off the coil on a cool humid day before it strangles the air flow.
330 m3/h of air flow
Strong enough to carry cold air across the 350 sq ft the maker rates it for.
R410A refrigerant
The charge published by the manufacturer for this model.
ETL and DOE listed
Both marks appear on the manufacturer's own artwork, alongside overload protection and a child lock.
115V household outlet
115V, 60Hz on a 6 ft cord. A standard Canadian socket runs it, no electrician.

Who is this perfect for?
People who will not empty a tray
Most of the water leaves as vapour, and a 25.5 inch pipe handles the rest.
Living rooms up to 350 sq ft
The coverage is matched to the 6,000 BTU SACC figure rather than the 10,000 BTU lab number.
Dusty homes and pet owners
A high density filter screen catches hair and dust before it reaches the coil, and it rinses under a tap.

Frequently asked questions
Does self-evaporating mean no draining ever?
Not in every condition. In dry or moderate air most of the condensate leaves as vapour through the exhaust hose and you will not touch it. In a genuinely humid stretch more water arrives than the system can evaporate, which is what the 25.5 inch drainage pipe and the 650 ml tank are for.
Which capacity figure should I size from?
The SACC rating of 6,000 BTU, and the 350 sq ft coverage that goes with it. ASHRAE 10,000 BTU is measured under fixed lab conditions and Danby notes it is generally the higher of the two numbers for the same machine.
What window does the kit suit?
Sliding windows between 25.5 and 49.5 inches. Crank out casement windows need a panel cut for the exact opening, because a sliding kit cannot seal that frame properly.
How loud is it?
65 dB or under at full tilt, by the manufacturer's rating, which is around conversation level. Low fan speed and sleep mode are noticeably quieter.
