A pole where the dishes go
The centre of the table is lost
A market umbrella runs its pole through the table. The middle of the table becomes a place to work around rather than use, and the shade cannot follow the sun.
Hang it from the side
The curved arm brings the canopy over the table from a post standing beside it. The whole top is free, and the lock on the post lets the canopy tilt and turn to follow the light.

Frequently asked questions
What size table does it suit?
A 10 foot canopy covers a round table of about 60 inches, around six seats, with some overhang. The drawing gives 6.5 feet of clearance under the canopy and 8 feet to the top of the arm.
Are the sandbags or weights included?
No. A crossed metal base is included and the listing says it needs sandbags or a weighted base, not included, to hold it down. No weight is published, so fill or load it generously: a side post umbrella carries its canopy off centre.
Does navy fade?
All fabric fades eventually. The manufacturer rates this 180 gsm polyester as fade resistant; no UPF figure is published. Closing it when not in use helps.
What about wind and winter?
The manufacturer asks you to close it in severe weather. Crank it down, fasten the loop strap and, for winter, let it dry fully before storing it somewhere dry.
